The monthly interview, is Jim Luippold's one, breeder in USA with the kennel name of: Jim's Cotons

How did you meet the breed ?
I was first introduced to the breed when my friend Christine Casey came to visit with her family and 4 Cotons de Tulear in the summer of 1990.

Who were your first Cotons?
My first two Cotons were Glycine de DeTutto now called COSETTE and HIghlander de la Draille des Cailloux now called Marius. Glycine came from a small towm near Rennes called Chantepie and Marius came from a very small town near Valence called Boffre.

Can you explain the choice of your kennel name?
My kennel's name is as simple as I want it to be...Jim's Cotons.

What quality(ies) do you favouring in a Coton?
My joy with living with Cotons is their intelligence, fidelity, affection and love of life. They are always happy and playful.which keeps me smiling.

What are your selection criteria for your reproductives?
I have used Marius as my sire and have bred Cosette, Lili and now Magali with him. He has strong pigmentation and produces fine looking babies.

Cosette

What do you think about the Coton evolution these last years?
I am saddened that American clubs can't get along and cannot agree about standards. There is a certain snobbism among certain clubs that I will not tolerate. It is also a shame that breeders ship pups to unknown destinations and are not accountable to the dogs welfare and genetic safety.

Can you describe the "ideal" Coton ?

The IDEAL Coton is one with a beautiful coat, full eye and nose pigmentation, perfect teeth and stance however I feel that all Cotons are ideal as pets which is why people would want to live with them, right?

Thank you for listening! You can see pics of me and the dogs at www.crocker.com/~luippold
