How did you met the breed?
When I was 16 years old, we went to a dog show to look for a "wife" for myAfghan hound. We went back home with a Briard! We started showing and we ended up with 4 briards, two become Italian champions. We had a very big home in the country but all dogs where inside home so we thought to look for a smaller breed. My father gave me a book for my birthday present with all the breeds of the world and I followed in love for cotons (later on, I discover that the cotons on the pictures of the book were from Catsex-Bindé dogs where I had my "Bemby de Guitelione"). My father supported me since me and my brother had lost my mother so my father thought showing could have been a good hobby for teenagers. That's my starting! It was during the end of the 80's.

Who were your first Cotons?
Kissmegay of Woodland Cottage, Bemby de Guitelione, Charlotte the Valaury's Cottage.

Can you explain the choice of your kennel name?
COTON-BRIE=COTON de tulear-berger de BRIE :-)

What quality(ies) do you favouring in a Coton?
Type, health and temperament.

What are your selection criterion for your reproductives?
I'm using mainly outcrossing based on similarity of Phenotype or mild line breeding. I'm breeding only sounds dogs for temperament and type and health checked. Then I have goals to reach every time. I'm trying to fix some points and also trying to produce better puppies than the parents.

What do you think about the Coton evolution these last years?
I think cotons made enourmous progress! I remember the French National Speciaty in Paris, it was I think 1988 and so many different types of cotons!! So much differences and so many big cotons. One was so high that his owner was keeping him in her arms and his legs were almost touching the floor! I think the last 2-3 years quality had explosed at very high level. Now the type is more fixed and the quality very good.

Can you describe the "ideal" Coton ?
a/male
Masculin, correct rapports (head/muzzle, high/ lenght...), good straight legs (especially in the front), correct coat texture, happy temperament.
b/female
The same but femminine.

If you're participating to dog shows, what are your motivations, and what are your criterion for choosing them?
My motivations for showing is mainly the confront with other dogs and other breeder work. Also to look for possible lines I could be interested to (for mating or for puppies) My criterions in choising them are: distance (I live in center of Italy) and prestigious, importance of the show.

When you're breeding, what are the éléments you're taking into account to choose the dam and the sire ?
Pedigree, health check, phenotype.

Is there a question that you would like we answer you ? If yes which one ? And can you answer ?
That is the question I'd like you have asked me: Why are you breeding? I ever had dogs in my life and I can't imagine my life without them. When I have a major problem or I'm sad for something only sitting on the floor with all my dogs around taking care of me is the only way to feel better and go on. They are one of the joy of my life. So breeding them and be able to have people who's life is happier with one of my puppy is like to share with other the true meaning of life.

Happiness !
